You need copy of one of the following documents for getting a Gas connection with HP

  1. House lease agreement / rent receipt
  2. Ration Card (mandatory in few states)
  3. Passport
  4. telephone bill/any other utility bill
  5. Self declaration attested by Gazetted officer.

Generally you should get a two cylinder, one regulator connection. As of Dec 2009 the prices for the same are as below
Fixed Cost: Refundable Deposit for Two Cylinders @ Rs. 1250/- each = Rs. 2,500/-
Refundable Deposit for One Regulator @ Rs. 150/- = Rs. 150/-
Cost of Domestic Gas consumer card = Rs. 25/-
Cost of Two Refills - As per area
Buying a hot plate or stove from the gas agency is not mandatory. In most cases if you buy it then you will get the connection immediately otherwise they will delay it unnecessarily. You can also complain about this to the local HP Gas authority using this link

  • Alok  - mandatory condition
It is mandatory that you do not have any gas connection at the same address.

But as usual, this rule too is circumvented if you take hot plate/stove from the agency.

  • Nikhil D  - no rules if you buy a hot plate
In fact, if you buy a hot plate then they will not ask for any documents :-)
